SOLVED: Getting BMW Scanner 1.4 Working on Windows 7 (64-bit)

I recently wanted to share my experience getting the BMW Scanner software working on my Windows 7, 64-bit operating system. After going through some hurdles, I was able to successfully install and run the software.

The first step is to ensure that you have installed the correct drivers for your Windows 7 system. Once all is done, open up PA.Soft and get ready to code! The installation process is similar to before, but this time you need to install FTDI drivers onto the COM port. Be warned, there will be a new COM port listed with an '!' symbol. It may warn you that hell will freeze over and your computer will break - proceed with caution!

After installing the FTDI drivers, go back into your Device Manager and look for the BMWscanner14x device. Unfortunately, it may no longer be listed. Right-click on the unknown device and select 'Update Driver'. Browse your computer, let me pick from a list, and select 'USB serial bus controller'. On the next screen, scroll down to FTDI chipset. It took some time, but make sure you install this once on your system.

Once installed, your computer should recognize the BMW scanner in your Device Manager as 'BMWscanner14x' or something similar with a yellow '!'.

In my case, it took me about 5 hours trying to install XP Mode on Windows 7 before I decided to take a different approach and reattempt installing the software on Windows 7. However, these are the exact steps I took to get 1.4 running on my computer.

Update: 100% working 1.4 scanner on Windows 7 Home 64-bit (native). Please note that I take no responsibility if you fry your computer while following these instructions.

I hope this helps anyone else who is struggling to get the BMW Scanner software working on their Windows 7 system.
